Blog Assignment Overview

Each of the six blog posting assignments are worth 50 points for a total of 300. The assignments are available on this web site, on the course blog and, by link, on Blackboard. I will not hand out the assignments in writing. Please monitor the schedule - you are responsible for knowing when assignments are due.

The first blog assignment is to create a blog, make a posting and send me the URL.

The five subsequent postings include reading responses and other experience-based assignments. The postings require you to think about what you've read or experienced and clearly articulate those thoughts in writing. Your responses must be posted before 8am on the due date. You may include images, YouTube videos and/or links in your posting but you must be explicit about why you are using them and exactly how they are relevant to your response to the assignment.

I will evaluate your writing on the Blog Assignments and your exam responses according to the following criteria:

Excellent spelling, grammar and syntax. Invite someone to read your writing out loud before you consider the assignment complete. Listen to the places where your reader stumbles over the words...these are likely the passages that need clarification.

Proper citation. When responding to a reading, you must cite the author at least once. The citation you make from the reading should be brief and to the point. The relevant words you borrow from the article should be enclosed in quotation marks and followed by a page number in parentheses (p. 123).

A clear grasp of the assignment. You must complete all parts of the assignment. Reading responses should briefly summarize the aspect of the writing that you are addressing in the posting. When writing about your experience you must sufficiently set the scene and describe the events in a clear and concise manner.

Demonstrated complex and reflective thought. The posting should demonstrate that you have thought about what you are writing before you wrote it. I want to see evidence that the writer or experience left an impression on your thinking - how your thinking was changed or reinforced by the assignment.
