Course OverviewThis course is intended to deepen your understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of art. We will be studying art's definition, form, media and it's historic and cultural meanings. After completing this course, if you apply yourself to the content, you can expect to accomplish these goals:
Required ReadingIn order to succeed in this class you must stay current on the reading assignments. Practice active reading as you prepare for class: make notes and questions about what you are reading, highlight important phrases. The lectures do not substitute for your careful reading of assignments. The course text book is Prebles' Artforms and should be available at the bookstore. Frank, Patrick. Prebles' Artforms. 9th Ed. Prentice Hall Press. (2009) Office Hours and Contact InfoI welcome students to contact me by email to make an appointment. I am excited about art and talking about it, so I enthusiastically encourage you to make some time for us to meet. Attendance and Participation You must stay on current on the reading, attend class and pay
attention during lectures and discussions to succeed in this class. I
will drop you from the class if you miss more than two meetings. Your
attendance and participation points will suffer if you do not pay attention
during the lectures. I expect you to come to class having read the assignments.
Your attendance and participation will be measured by how often you are
present and your constructive participation. ExamsThere are four exams during the course. Each exam covers material in your book and anything I present during lecture, too. Exams 1 & 2 will be multiple choice and slide identification. Exams 3 & 4 will be short answer, slide identification and essay. Each exam is worth 50 points. -top-Final Paper The Final Paper is divided into three different assignments. Your topic
and outline is worth 15 points, the rough draft is worth 15
points and the final draft is worth 45 points. I will have more
detailed information about this assignment later in the semester. Extra Credit There is a course
blog. You will all be authors of this domain and are encouraged to make
posts to there for extra credit points. You can earn up to 10 points, at my discretion, for your
contributions to the blog. We'll talk more about this in class...its fun! Academic Integrity (have it)
